Mathematics plays an important role in all of our lives. The ability to count, measure and the appreciation of spatial awareness provides us with the skills to carry out everyday activities such as shopping, cooking, analysing situations and practical jobs such as decorating.
In the early years of a child's life the areas of mathematical experiences include:
Counting, Ordering, Sorting, Matching,
Making Patterns, Recognising Patterns,
Adding and Subtracting,
Measurement of Weight, Time and Length,
Shape and Space and Volume and Capacity.
The toys provided by Stepping Stones enable parents to develop their child's skills in these areas and ensure that through a variety of different play activities - "learning is fun".

There is a strong developmental link between language and the ability to interact socially. Expressing ones feelings and understanding others are essential skills that children must learn to be able to share and play together. In later life poor communication is often blamed as the cause for aggressiveness, social isolation and unfortunately many marriage breakdowns!!

Developing children's physical skills is an essential element in the school curriculum. whether this be Fine Motor Skills to assist in simple day-to-day activities such as writing, cutting or threading or the development of Gross Motor Skills to develop walking, running and catching.
As a child grows older of course, a positive attitude towards a good diet and regular exercise has major advantages for all. All of the toys here look to assist in developing these skills from birth.
Helping children to explore the world around them is important as it encourages their curiosity and desire to touch, feel, experiment and ask questions about the world around them. Included in this section are toys that explore the world of science, nature, technology, history and geography.
Personal, Social and Emotional development provides the foundation for a child's learning and future development. There are many skills that a child needs to attain and these include the development of independence, concentration skills and the ability to follow simple instructions. At a young age it is also vitally important that children develop a positive attitude towards learning and the games and toys in this section encourage play independently and with others..
Children need to experience different types of music, poetry, visual art and drama.
